Plant Cell
The centre of photosynthesis
Summary
Unlike an animal cell, a plant cell has a cell wall, chloroplasts and a large central vacuole.
In depth
Plant cells are eukaryotic cells that can make their own food from sunlight through photosynthesis. A cell wall made of cellulose gives them their shape and strength. The pigment chlorophyll in the chloroplasts captures sunlight. The large central vacuole stores water and nutrients and gives the cell its internal pressure (turgor).
